Congratulations to our January 2014 Volunteer of the Month
Lora Anthony is a Senior Marketing Manager with JCPenney. She is responsible for brand development and national advertising for their internal brands, such as Arizona Jeans, Liz Claiborne and the Home Department. Prior to starting with JCPenney, she provided brand engagement consulting to three small agencies, focused on experiential marketing and advanced digital technology. However most of her career was spent with American Airlines, leading the U.S. Advertising and Marketing for the AAdvantage program.
Lora has been a regular attendee at AMA events for years, but only recently became a member. She volunteers on the Social Media team to gain experience, and maintains an active role with the AMA. Her passions are traveling, photography, cooking and keeping an active lifestyle with her 9 year old son.

Kelly Honrobia recently joined Fujitsu Network Communications as a Channel Account Manager. She is responsible for helping drive a new channel-focused strategy by establishing executive relationships with Value-Added Resellers, working with partners to develop co-branded go-to-market and marketing campaigns, and helping align the Fujitsu field sales teams with the channel on day-to-day business activities. Kelly has over 15 years of B2B marketing and channel experience in high-tech industries.
Kelly has been an AMA member since March of 2013. She currently serves on the DFW AMA Luncheon Committee and enjoys helping out wherever needed. In her spare time, you can find Kelly hanging out with her family, decorating cakes, and volunteering with dog rescue groups.

Melanie Endert is the Director of Marketing for the M&A Leadership Council, a Dallas-based training/certification partnership providing workshops and advisory services to the merger and acquisition community. Melanie provides marketing strategy and tactics, event planning, and artistic direction to the firm, overseeing its workshop operations, website administration, social media, and client relations and communications.
Melanie enjoys networking with other members of the DFW AMA through her position on the volunteer committee. She graduated from James Madison University in Virginia with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, and is the proud mom of three Aggies. When she’s not working, she’s usually out running!

Neha Verma is the Marketing Communications Manager for Sekisui Specialty Chemicals. Implementing both marketing and branding strategy for this global company, Neha has responsibility for four unique brands of the polymer Selvol. This is a new position for Neha, who was previously in the world of IT as the Marketing Director for Dallas-based Carillon ERP software. She is excited about working for a global company now and adding scope to her business to business marketing prowess.
When she is not traveling for trade shows, she enjoys boxing and yoga. As the current VP of Marketing Events here at the AMA, she loves networking events and rarely turns down an invitation to meet with new professionals in the DFW area. She has been a member of the DFW AMA since 2011. “Come to next month’s Meet and Greet!”

Val Bergman is an Account Executive at Tri-Win Direct, a Dallas-based Direct Mail Marketing Firm. She specializes in providing consultation in data procurement & management, postage savings analysis, mail piece content development and execution. She’s been on the Tri-Win Sales Team for six years and genuinely enjoys developing effective direct mail marketing solutions for clients.
Val’s been a member of the DFW AMA since March of 2012 and always looks forward to volunteering, listening to the interesting speakers, and meeting other marketing professionals.
She earned her B.S. in Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences from Colorado University, specializing in Echocardiography. In her spare time, she enjoys running, hiking, biking, camping and water sports.

Kristin Kacir is the Marketing Manager at Improving Enterprises, an Addison-based software development consultancy firm. She is experienced in branding, corporate communications, event planning, and executing various marketing campaigns. She possesses a passion to learn more about communications and the evolution of social media in the marketing process.
She has been a member of the DFW AMA since June 2012 and currently serves as the Director of Volunteer Relations on the Volunteer Committee.
Kristin earned her bachelor’s degree in Communications at Texas A&M University, while minoring in Anthropology. She enjoys hiking, traveling, and trying new restaurants in Dallas.

With her extensive background in corporate marketing management, communications, and consulting she brings a wealth of experience, leadership and organizational skill to each project she undertakes. Her expertise ranges from branding initiatives, sales support and communications campaigns, to content marketing and social media programs.
Nancy holds an MBA in Marketing from University of Arizona and a BS in Psychology from University of Illinois. She is also a Certified Financial Planner and was the EVP of Communications for the DFW AMA in 2010 – 2011.

Wally has been active in both the DFW AMA chapter as well as the Collegiate Chapter at UT-Arlington since September, 2012 and currently serves as a volunteer on the DFW AMA Executive Lunch committee. Wally is recognized for his never ending support of the Dallas Luncheons and consistent efforts to insure the luncheons work like clockwork. In his short tenure he has actively recruited three new members into the UTA chapter and will serve as an advisor to the UTA chapter President in the coming academic year.
Since 2008, Wally has enjoyed a successful career at Hewlett-Packard Co. in a Commercial Account Manager position. He has been employed in the technology industry for over 20 years and is presently pursuing a Master of Science Marketing Research degree at UT-Arlington.
Wally has been married for 28 years to his lovely wife, Leslie who is employed at Southwest Airlines. They have one son, Carl, who is transferring to UT-Austin next fall. Wally is an active traveler, scuba diver, and Adult Sunday School teacher. Their family resides in Arlington.

Karen Orso is the Senior Director of Marketing and Education for Apexus, a healthcare company that is part of the VHA / Novation family of companies. Karen provides strategic leadership for marketing, communications, and education activities. Before joining Apexus, she served in leadership roles in marketing and sales at the American Heart Association, Cardinal Health, and General Motors.
During her 12 years as a member of the AMA, Karen has served on the board of the Houston AMA and as a volunteer for the Dallas AMA. She is currently on the planning committee for the CMO Panel Members Only event.
Karen received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Indiana University and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Oakland University. She currently serves on the board of the Coppell Family YMCA.

Becky Young, SCA Promotions Account Manager, is proud to be associated with the DFW AMA. Becky has been with SCA for over 9 years in a sales capacity and works with advertising agencies, charities, radio stations, auto dealers, retail and independent businesses. SCA underwrites risk on prizes for promotions and contests. Becky enjoys helping clients’ bring more excitement to their promotions with SCA’s promotional risk management services and within her first year of working at SCA, Becky experienced the thrill of having a $10,000 winner for a local client.
Prior to joining SCA, Becky worked in the radio industry for 23 years and held positions such as Local Sales Manager, Regional Sales Manager, and New Business Development Manager. She earned distinguished awards for “$1,000,000 Sales Achiever and Top Performer” multiple times. Other achievements made during this time include the production of a trade show called “Big Boy Toy Show”; development of a “Women’s Wellness Breast Cancer Awareness Program” and the creation of a state-wide sampling program for Ben & Jerry’s ice cream.
Becky is serving on the DFW AMA’s “Marketer of the Year” committee and was instrumental in organizing SCA’s sponsorship for the monthly luncheons: SCA Promotions provides a chance for one person to win $5,000 at each luncheon.
Becky has also served on the board of the DFW Chapter of TSEA (Trade Show Exhibitor Association). She holds a BA in Liberal Arts from Hendrix College in Arkansas. When not at work, she enjoys traveling, gardening, and spending time with family and friends.

Whitney Starling is an account executive at Marketwave, a national marketing firm, where she provides strategic marketing and event management support. In her experience, Whitney has worked with energy, healthcare, national nonprofit, fitness, retail, and education clients. At MarketWave, Whitney has discovered a passion for experiential marketing, blogging, and social media and relishes the opportunity to further develop her skills in these areas. In her media relations experience, Whitney has secured coverage for clients in Dallas Business Journal, PaperCity, and on CBS DFW.
Whitney enjoys being a member of the DFW American Marketing Association’s Marketer of the Year Committee, because she gets to further develop her event management skills, meet some of Dallas’ finest marketers, and pursue her passion for writing.
Whitney earned her bachelor’s degree in public relations from The University of Texas at Austin while minoring in business administration. In her “free time,” Whitney can be found cheering for her beloved ‘horns or Dallas Cowboys, running, reading, exploring Dallas, and planning future world travels.

John is thrilled to be a member of the DFW American Marketing Association because of the interesting speakers featured at the monthly luncheons and valuable networking opportunities. John is being recognized for his contributions to the Dallas Luncheon Committee. He has been instrumental in helping the DFW AMA attract and secure high level marketing executives to speak at our monthly events. Ben Stewart has over 25 years experience in commercial and advertising photography. His education in Engineering at Clemson University, followed by a BS in Photography from East Texas State University, gives him a unique combination of left- and right-brain talents to solve visual communications problems.
As the principle of Benjamin D. Stewart Photography, he has directed all aspects of the creative processes involved in creating images to convey concepts as well as three-dimensional objects. Andra Dunn is a digital marketing and communications consultant who is passionate about using technology to drive online traffic. Andra has over 15 years of experience in the marketing field spanning graphic design, public relations, event coordination, website design, email marketing, and social media.
In 2012, she launched her own digital agency, Convertible Communications Consulting, where her focus is on helping small businesses and non-profits utilize technology to tell their stories and engage their customers.

Renee Wagner has over 14 years experience in the telecommunications industry ranging from sales and marketing to network engineering and service delivery. He currently works as a Network Operation Specialist for Verizon in Irving. At Verizon Renee’s’ roles include cost accounting, quality assurance, audit reconciliation, and defining system requirements for existing voice and data services. Although he works in telecommunications, Renee’s true passion and talents lie in the entertainment industry. He is currently in a popular party band named Signed Sealed Delivered, where he serves a dual role as a singer and onsite event coordinator. Renee recently began a career as a voice-over artist where he has done public service announcements, video game, and narration voice-over jobs.
Renee serves as the VP of New Membership and is responsible for facilitating communication to new and renewing members and increasing membership retention.
Renee holds an MBA in Marketing Management from the University of Dallas and a Bachelor of Science in Marketing and Logistics from Indiana University.

Angela began her professional career in Los Angeles with an undergraduate degree in Interior Design, but her interest in marketing was sparked many years later while working as a merchandising rep for LEGO in North Dallas. When she realized her desire to earn an MBA at University of Texas at Arlington, she discovered their exceptional Market Research program and soon her MBA turned into a dual degree. She’s recently completed an internship with Wonderware West, a subsidiary of Cooper Crouse Hinds Industries, where she conducted a full market research project including qualitative and quantitative research methods. She looks forward to an exciting career in Market Research following graduation this next summer.
At UTA, she began volunteering with the Collegiate AMA chapter last spring when she was elected as 2012-2013 President. The chapter goals include deeper integration and collaboration with the DFW AMA professional chapter, and they’ve enjoyed the events they’ve been able to attend. In her personal time, she enjoys ballet, modern dance, and currently performs as an apprentice member of the Momentum Dance Company in Irving, Texas.

Congratulations to our June Volunteer of the Month
Shay began her career as an event planner while a senior at Southern Methodist University, working with the Marketing Department of Ernst & Young to produce the Entrepreneur of the Year Awards. Upon graduation, she nabbed a prestigious internship with The Marketing Arm, coordinating the build-out, operations and promotion of Dallas on Ice, the city’s first outdoor ice rink.
She quickly assumed a role as Account Manager at MTZ Meetings (formerly Axxient) working with the pharmaceutical giants on their city-wide conventions, planning programs for up to 3,000 in attendance and in excess of $3 million.
Shay joined Strike Up Your Brand in April 2009 and focuses on planning, operations and forecasting.

David Richardson is the Business Development Manager for Paladin Staff. Paladin is a professional staffing and recruitment firm dedicated to the marketing, creative, and communications professions. David’s role includes project management, business development and of course marketing. His previous experience was handling marketing and sales initiatives with a RFID Consulting company called OTA Training.
He holds a Bachelor’s of Business Administration degree from the University of North Texas in Marketing. David enjoys his role with the Special Events Commitee and has been a member since 2009. When he is not working or serving with the AMA, he spends his time with his Wife in Flower Mound and his two schnauzers. He also is a Founder of the Dallas Ultimate Frisbee club team called PLEX and travels the nation competing against other National teams.

Thomas serves with the DFW AMA Membership team as a liaison for the collegiate professionals as the Director of Student Membership. He joined the Dallas AMA in 2010 and enjoys sharing his passion of empowering others through his ability to connect and create meaningful relationships. His abilities of web 2.0 insight and passion has carried forward as a member also of the Communications and Special Events team. He was recently invited into the DFW AMA Mentor Program as a mentee of Ben Smithee, CEO at Spych Market Analytics. Thomas is presently finishing his BBA in Marketing from the University of North Texas and leading his peers as the UNT AMA collegiate chapter President. Outside of his volunteer work and studies, he is active along the mountain bike trails while also continuing to improve upon his golf game.

Jennifer Howell is the Market Development Director for Credera. Credera provides expert, objective advice to help solve complex business and technology challenges. Jennifer’s role includes marketing, business development and her favorite pastime, connecting people to one another. Jennifer’s previous experience includes managing projects and building relationships while working for Accenture, State Street, the Salvation Army, and the American Heart Association. She holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree from Trinity University in Business Administration and received her Graduate Marketing Certificate from SMU. Jennifer greatly enjoys her role as the Program Director for the DFW AMA Mentor Program. When she is not serving and having fun with the Mentors and Protégés, she spends her time with friends, her dog, trying to improve her cycling skills, traveling, and enjoying her new sustainer status with the Junior League of Dallas.

EVP of Programs for Fort Worth
Steve serves as the EVP of Programs for Fort Worth and is working tirelessly to establish a vibrant and growing Fort Worth membership dedicated to the needs of the Fort Worth and greater Tarrant County marketing professional. When he is not working to expand the Fort Worth AMA presence, he is working in business development for Graphics2. In this position, he establishes new customer relations in the area of conversational rather than informational marketing using state-of-the-art technologies. This means the use of Integrated Marketing to create a community around a company’s brand. Steve has over 35 years of experience in the graphics arts, advertising and marketing segments both in North Texas and in the Seattle markets. He is a 1975 graduate of Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas.

When she is not planning the DFW AMA Luncheon, Marla works for McKinley Marketing Partners to match talented marketing professionals with Fortune 1000 companies looking for interim, contract-to-hire and permanent placement positions within the areas of marketing, communications/PR, digital marketing and market research. Marla has an MBA in marketing and 20 years experience selling to customers in the marketing and advertising fields.

Director, Small/Medium Business Special Interest Group
David Slatter was teleported to Texas from his Scottish homeland 18 years ago, and now enjoys the American dream living on seven acres in an amazing log home he built himself. Although a 30-year marketing “veteran,” his big secret is that he has a degree in electronic engineering! But after a few short years, he crossed to the dark side and has since held a variety of senior management positions in Europe and the US in strategic marketing, communications, and market research. Following on from a 24-year career at Texas Instruments, David is now President and Chief Marketing Strategist at ExperiPro, a management consulting company based in Las Colinas. “What keeps me going is the incredible variety of clients that we get to work with, and the fact that I learn something new every day.”
David’s long term experience in the field of marketing has given the DFW AMA an asset that is hard to come by and he continues to drive the direction of the Small/Medium Business SIG to greater heights.David has been the Director of the Small/Medium Business SIG for almost 2 years and works with his team of volunteers to organize speakers and events. He attends many of the AMA luncheons and happy hours and is easy to spot- he is the guy with the strange Scottish accent.

Congratulations to Kay Byfield for being recognized as the August Board Member of the Month. Kay is a long time member of the DFW AMA board and this year has taken on the responsibility for three roles – Secretary, Chapter Excellence Award Chair and for the first time thanks to Kay we now have an Historian!
Kay is putting together an amazing chronicle of the chapter’s history, key accomplishments, significant events, strengths, challenges, membership and volunteer growth and leadership since it was established in 1956 and is also planning a special event to pay tribute to our history and the chapter’s past presidents. Carol Faldet is a native Texan from Richardson, Texas. She has a BA in Advertising from Texas Tech University. After four years working for several small ad agencies in Dallas she switched to the dark side . . . working for a print company.
What was going to be a stepping stone turned into 30 years at Johnson Printing Service or JPS. Now with ink in her blood, as National Account Manager, Carol is committed to providing exceptional service and creative solutions for her clients such as 7-Eleven Inc., Bank of America, and Dr Pepper Snapple Group. JPS has a unique plant set-up focusing on print-on-demand, turnkey production and fulfillment for marketing collateral, training manuals, student curriculum, and now short run books for small press publishers and self-publishing authors.
Carol joined the Dallas AMA in 2010 and enjoys working with the membership team, providing their brochures and flyers. She is also is a member of the check-in team for the monthly meetings and the Dallas area Meet & Greets. “I have visited and been a member of several professional organizations and at the AMA I have not only made great connections, I have made great friends!”

Elena English has been in the interactive agency and IT consulting business for over 10 years. She co-founded elKore, Inc., an interactive agency and software development consulting firm with an outsourced team in Eastern Europe (Belarus, where Elena is originally from). In 2010, in response to the growing demand for effective mobile marketing tools, Elena founded a new venture The piJnz Group (http://pijnz.com) that developed a mobile landing page platform to allow agencies and brands to easily create and launch mobile landing pages and micro-sites. With piJnz, companies can publish mobile content on demand and cost effectively. So far piJnz has been steadily gaining traction as a mobile content publishing platform of choice for agencies in the U.S., Canada, U.K., and South Africa.
Elena joined DFW/AMA in 2010 and has greatly enjoyed the events and speakers. She wanted to contribute to the organization and its great people, and stepped in to offer her team’s skills and experience to renovate the DFW/AMA website. She’d like to especially thank Nancy Bourne and Dan Stables for their efforts in making the new website a success.
Outside of her work schedule, Elena enjoys living a fun life: playing in a band, traveling, and raising a beautiful one-year-old daughter.

D’ has been on the DFW/AMA board as VP of Communications, and in 2010-2011 she handled the web portion of the chapter communications. Her time and energy that was devoted to this critical method of communication for our chapter is invaluable!

The variety of clients, industries and projects is something that is especially exciting to D’. “When you’re expected to be creative every day, while making your client’s message persuasive to its audience, it helps to have many influences,” states D’. “Creativity doesn’t happen in a vacuum!”
