 Michelle Lemire, President

Congratulations to Immediate Past President Paige Johnston and the 2008-9 Board of Directors for running an outstanding Spring Membership Campaign! The Dallas/Fort Worth Chapter had the highest percent growth in membership during the campaign for its size category, which includes the largest chapters of AMA such as New York, Chicago, Atlanta and Houston.  This spring we added 90 new Professional members, bringing our total membership to 759.  This is almost a 12% increase!  For this success, the D/FW Chapter wins an award of $1000 and bragging rights!

We hope you will join us in this success and help us welcome all our new members!  We look forward to meeting each and every one of you!

Shocking News - The DFW AMA Sells Out!!!
Tom Dennis EVP of Programs

I have some good news and some bad news.  First the good news - as the quality of our program offering continues to improve, the attendance at our events is increasing and the evaluation survey satisfaction ratings continue to rise.  This reinforces our strategy of providing highly targeted content at both Executive Luncheons and Special Interest Group meeting - and that even in a down economy, the programs we offer our members are proving to be of great value to them.

Now the bad news: The increase in attendance means we are starting to sell out events.  While that might seem like a great thing for the club, I hate having to turn people away.  Talking with AMA Board members from around the country at the spring AMA National Leadership Conference I was reminded how unique the DFW Metroplex is.  Many other AMA chapters sell out events weeks in advance – while this market is notorious for not registering until the last minute (and that is not just DFW AMA members, as my counterparts at several other industry associations report the same behavior from their members).  As D’ Forman mentions in her article below, the majority of registration to an event takes  place during the 48 hours leading up to it.

While I certainly understand the fluidity of everyone’s schedule in these “interesting times”, if there is an event you have your heart set on attending, please pre-register. I would hate to have you miss out because we run out of seats.  And if you haven’t pre-registered for an event, I would recommend checking the DFW AMA website to make sure it isn’t sold out before you head to the venue.  We will always post on-line when an event sells out during pre-registration.

Thanks to everyone for their tremendous support of our programs - and get ready, we have some great things planned for the year ahead!

Why You Get So Many %^@$ Emails From Us
D' Forman, VP Communications

You might be hovering over that opt out button right now, but wait, if knowledge is power - than you're gonna be Superperson!

Here are the reasons you get emails from us:
1) The national AMA sends out weekly emails regarding webcasts, its own newsletter, special events, etc. Your local chapter has nothing to do with these.

2) The DFW AMA chapter sends out a monthly e-newsletter, plus a weekly Upcoming Events reminder.

3) Members occasionaly send LinkedIn messages, etc., to encourage others to attend upcoming events.

4) You may be getting a reminder for each of the events for which you've pre-registered. There's a box to UNcheck when you register if you do NOT want a reminder email.
We'd like to stop there but...

5) The biggest cause lies with our members' habits. Don't worry, we're not going to give away your secrets. We need to give a "guaranteed" head count to the event venues several days in advance, which means we pay for food even if we don't meet that number. Basically, we guess how many of you are going to show up based on past attendance. When people wait until the last minute to register for events, we panic, and send out more reminder emails. Example - the June 26th Telecom SIG: on Monday before the Friday event we had 30-something registered, but a higher minimum 'guaranteed' to the venue. We got busy promoting it, and by late Thursday afternoon we had 46 registered. With later registrations and walk-ins, we ended up with 75 attendees! Registering early also has lower event fees - a real benefit in this economy.

So, if any of you have any suggestions as to how to get people to pre-register, and do it earlier, we're all ears! You can email me at d@formangroup.com. Believe me, I'd love to have less to do and send fewer emails.
